The Co-op Index Tool provides an analysis of a worker co-op’s ability to internalize the values and principles of the cooperative identity (and the principles of Mondragon Cooperative) into its operations and governance. The tool includes a survey and an policy review along with a facilitated discussion about the co-op to create a report that highlights areas of success and areas needing improvement.
At its heart, the Co-op Index measures how much a workplace embrace human dignity into the way that it conducts itself.
The tool was developed at St. Mary’s University with a reasearch team of academics, co-op developers, and co-op practitioners in 2007. It was further refined in 2019 by a smaller research group of academics and co-op developers (which practical worker co-op experience). The new version will be field tested in the winter/spring of 2020.
